Hazelnut Chocolate Spread and Chocolate Torte

Ok so let’s not beat about the bush here, when I say hazelnut chocolate spread I basically mean Nutella. Haha I know, I know, no point trying to hide it, except the problem with Nutella is there are hardly any nuts in it at all (what a joke!) so rather than call this recipe ‘paleo Nutella’ I thought hazelnut chocolate spread was a better fit as it’s pretty much exactly what it says on the tin!

Now I have to confess that this recipe is not new for me, it’s been something that’s been made time and time again in my kitchen, I just haven’t shared it on here (until now). You see it was a guest post I wrote for Perfectly Paleo, it was one of three articles published in their online magazine. For your convenience I have listed the ingredients needed below for each recipe, but for the method you will need to go to the original posts.

Hazelnut Chocolate Spread

Ingredients
225g  (1 1/2 cups) Hazelnuts – ideally activated
430g (2 cups) Coconut milk
50g Maple syrup (I tend to use erythritol as I prefer the taste, maple syrup gives a sweeter taste, you can also try honey, xylitol or coconut sugar)
1/4 tsp Pink Himalayan rock salt
115g 90% Dark chocolate*
115g 70% Dark chocolate*

*You can make your own chocolate and use that if you prefer,  you will need a total of 230g of homemade chocolate.

Chocolate Torte

Chocolate Torte

Ingredients
120g Hazelnuts
120g Almonds
65g Pecans
20g Coconut oil
1 Tbsp cinnamon
1 Tbsp Vanilla
1 -2 Tbsp maple syrup (optional, again I often used erythritol)
Pinch of salt
Hazelnut chocolate spread (You can always make half a batch of spread, it will be plenty for making the torte’s with)

Makes 6 Torte’s
